Brief About The Project:

This intervention tackles the lack of public spaces in Beirut that drove citizens to resort to shopping malls which have become simulated controlled “public spaces”. This is due to the joining of plots of land and the zoning ordinance in areas like Ashrafieh, which permits full ground floor coverage, reducing the city’s porosity for pedestrian access. My proposal is a political statement to re-engage a sociable city. It stipulates a municipal regulation applied on plot scales that will influence the experience of the city by freeing the ground floor and reintroducing the open commercial street.
